Graduate case studies
Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.
My role involves managing multiple large to medium scale policy research projects funded by public bodies such as the European Union and the Department for International Development (DFID).
I am responsible for the full project management process, including public communication / dissemination of research findings (through events, websites, newsletters etc.), financial supervision and logistical coordination.
I frequently work with international organisations, such as Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) and the African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET). While working with researchers around the world, my main focus is on Europe and Africa.
It fits well with my political interest and allows me to have an influence on the future of policy making.
It's ok to take a little detour, to get your perfect job.
My ultimate aim is to work for a large governmental or non-governmental organisation such as the European Union or the United Nations, where I can use my passion and knoweldge to help shape the future.
Unfortunately you can't always walk into your ideal job, so you will need to be smart about your job-hunt. The "secret" to getting a job shortly after graduation is compromise. Find a job which trains you in the specific skills or area of expertise you need for that dream job and then work on them until you are in a good enough position to apply for that perfect job.
