Primary School Teacher

Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Planning, assessing and teaching primary curriculum subjects to children.
Maintaining a clean and organised classroom.
Marking and giving feedback to children on their progress.

Typical day

Arrive at school jus before 8am and prepare ready for the morning. Discuss day with other colleagues and check emails.
At 8:50am the children arrive and I register them. I then teach English and Maths in the morning. There is a short morning break and lunch. During lunchtime I catch up with marking or preparing classroom for the afternoon. After lunch subjects other than English and Maths are taught with the day ending with an assembly.
After school I either lead a club or attend meetings with other colleagues.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

During my time at Sheffield I ran a children's group and really enjoyed it. I liked the idea of sharing knowledge.
