Career information

Brief history since leaving University

Part time cadet forces instructor, organising and delivering training to a school cadet unit.

Over the summer I gained my Summer Mountain Leader and worked for other cadet units voluntarily.

I went back into the office as a temporary administrator, processing a repetitive stream of data, but I could come and go with some flexibility and the hours were good.

I was taken on permanently by the company after they discovered they had a graduate working at a basic data entry task and promoted quickly to be an analyst, something I'd done before university.

After deciding I wanted more than to stare at a computer all day, and finding limited support for my professional development I left and decided to try teaching. Doing a PGCE is a hard and involved qualification, in a constantly shifting education sector.

Where do I see myself in the future?

Outdoor education or a PhD in a geographical subject

Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Maths is a great subject that opens a lot of doors.
If geography is a passion it is a brilliant course with many options and skills to learn.
