Even though many of our graduates will have progressed in their careers since completing a case study, they are still of interest to students who wish to gain an understanding of the world of work.

About the job

Main responsibilities

Technical assistance to food companies.
Drawing of product specifications.
Promotional activities during exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
Sensory analysis tests.
Quality Assurance Manager.

Typical day

Cannot really say, because I am involved in all the company projects, hence every day I have to work on different tasks.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Different projects ranging from food development to promotion, most of them innovative for the market. Also, every day there is a different challenge.

Challenging aspects

Developing new products and/or solutions.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

Because I am working towards the development and improvement of food and animal products within the area I am living in.

Skills/qualifications I use in my job?

Food technology background and sensory analysis.

Training I receive as part of my job

Specific courses according to the tasks I am involved in.


Career information

Brief history since leaving University

MSc Food Science at Reading University (1997).

Sensory analysis courses for olive oil, wine, cheese and salami (2004-2011).

Where do I see myself in the future?

New product development in a food company or teaching.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Always accept a job offer, even if it is not the role or company you wish to work for, because if you wait to get the job of your dreams, you will never work.
