Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Get as much voluntary experience as possible - I got my first job out of university because I volunteered with the charity in Sheffield during my second and third years, which showed them that I truly believed in their mission and I could provide a reference from within the charity. I would also advise volunteering with a charity that has bases across the UK as that can give you more opportunity in terms of getting a job.

Try to get leadership experience in some form, be that through a sports team or a volunteering role, is a really good way to gain skills. I was a leader for a project that Sheffield Volunteering ran, and I learnt a lot. If you can volunteer with a range of different causes/groups of people, that shows that you have a mix of passions and interests and are willing to challenge yourself.

Google search causes that you care about and follow the charities that you like the look of on social media as they always post job adverts on there.
