About the job

Main responsibilities

Prototyping future ARM system solutions across FPGA clusters.

Typical day

Involved in long running projects, coding, fault finding and analyzing data working with cutting edge companies to deliver solutions.

What do I enjoy about my job?

Freedom/Autonomy, Challenging problems.

Keeping up with the complexity of the systems being designed.

Why did this area of work appeal to me?

Constantly faced with new problems to solve and devise ways around.

Programming, problem solving, Management.

A lot of specific tool / code language based training courses.


Career information

Brief history since leaving University

Worked at Waters from 2010-2020 designing Mass Spectrometers before moving to ARM.

Where do I see myself in the future?

I led a team at Waters and would look to move into more management roles as time goes on.


Advice to students

My piece of advice to students

Don't get stuck applying for grad schemes, there are loads of interesting engineering jobs out there. Get your CV out to the normal graduate recruiting companies because your Sheffield engineering degree opens a LOT of doors.
