What to do in September

Welcome to Sheffield!  You will be busy with orientation activities across campus, as well as meeting your new friends and course mates.  Our Part-time jobs and volunteering fair is a great way to meet employers and gain experience throughout your time here.

What to do in October

By this time, employers will be advertising graduate positions to start after you graduate so start early to get ahead of the game.  We will also be holding our three main careers fairs, with hundreds of employers on campus. Make sure you log in to Career Connect for help with all of the above!

What to do in November

Our Global Careers Programme will feature a week of employers on campus offering opportunities around the world.  The Careers Service will also be offering our central programme of workshops on CVs, applications, interviews and many more.

What to do in December

Although the University will be closing for the Christmas period, you can still be using your time effectively to apply for jobs.  Some of the larger UK employers may have application deadlines during the next month.

What to do in January

We will be open for business as usual!  You may find it easier to get an appointment at this time of year as many of our students may be out of the city.

What to do in February

Welcome back for Semester 2!  It’s important to organise your time well during this period.  You will not have time to apply for every job you find so it’s important to prioritise and to organise your time well.  Of course, we are here to help you with all of this.

What to do in March

At this time, you may find the number of UK graduate schemes which are still open has fallen.  Some employers have been known to re-open their graduate recruitment later in the year so keep looking throughout the semester!

What to do in April

University teaching finishes for a 3 week break over Easter, but we will still be here to talk about anything careers-related!

What to do May - August

You are now coming towards the end of your Masters year and companies will be advertising direct entry vacancies to start over the next few months.  Keep an eye out on Career Connect for graduate internships with local companies. These are a great way to build your skills and to experience more of life in Sheffield!

September and everything after

You can use our services for up to 3 years after you graduate so it’s never too late to be planning.  If you are still looking for jobs in the UK, check the start date before applying as employers will be starting to advertise graduate schemes to start in 2021.

International students: make the most of the remaining time on your Student Visa to look for short term placements, work opportunities and volunteering.
