Japan has the world's fourth-largest economy after the United States, China and India, in terms of purchasing power parity. It is also the world's fourth-largest exporter and importer.

The service sector accounts for three quarters of the gross domestic product. Japan also has a large advanced industrial sector with some of the most technologically advanced motor vehicles and electronics. It also exports machine tools, steel, ships, chemical substances, textiles, and processed foods.
